Proof of the Afterlife? A Spirit’s Message That Came Full Circle

During COVID, I had written this in my journal just for myself, but I recently rediscovered it and felt it was worth sharing. With permission from a friend, I’m honored to post this beautiful message from their loved one on the other side.

It was late on a Sunday night when I gave an unplanned reading—via text—to a friend who was about to undergo major surgery the next morning. Facing surgery is scary under normal circumstances, but with all the hospital restrictions at the time, I could only imagine how much scarier it must have felt knowing their family couldn’t be there to bring comfort or visit them.

Initially, I was just trying to be my usual dorky, awkward self, figuring out what ridiculous animated meme I could send to make them laugh and take their mind off things. But then, they mentioned something unusual—they had suddenly smelled their uncle’s cologne. He had passed many years ago, and they found it odd. Now, this was not someone who believed in spirits. They were on the fence about my mediumship abilities—at best, just going along for the ride. But smelling their uncle’s cologne out of nowhere, with no one else in the room, made them stop and question things.

Well, boom. That’s all it took.

The spirit of their uncle came rushing in, fast and fierce, with details about his life flowing so quickly I could barely type fast enough. I have to admit—his presence was far more meaningful (and funnier) than anything I could have come up with on my own to ease the night. (Thank you, spirit!!!) Then, he shared something incredibly comforting—he would be in the operating room with them every step of the way. I could only hope that, even for just a moment, it helped take the edge off.

But there was one thing that stuck with me.

Throughout the reading, the uncle kept showing me an image of a clock that wasn’t working. He insisted I share it as a sign that he was there. He showed it to me repeatedly, but the meaning wasn’t clear. It didn’t resonate with my friend, all of the clocks around them were working just fine, so we let it go and moved on.

Then, something amazing happened.

The next evening, only hours after surgery (which went well, by the way!), I got a FaceTime call from my friend. They were still groggy but so excited to share something with me before they forgot. While under anesthesia, they had an experience—one that left us both in awe.

They described meeting their uncle (surprised? Uhm, no!!) and walking together down a series of roads near golden wheat fields. They talked for what felt like hours. The entire time, my friend knew their uncle was with them throughout the surgery. With tears running down their face, they told me how incredibly real it felt.

And then—just before we hung up—they randomly glanced off into the distance, panned the phone around their hospital room, and casually focused on the clock on the wall.

It was stopped.

Several hours off. Not working.

They couldn’t stop talking about how odd it was for a clock in an intensive care unit to be broken.

And then—at the exact same time—we both gasped, laughed, and yelled, “OMG—your uncle!!!”

The dots connected.

We were both a soggy mess.

Moments like this remind me—with great humility—what a gift it is to be a Medium.

Believe, don’t believe—but experiences like this show, time and time again, that our souls are truly infinite. That there is something so much greater than us, and that our loved ones never really leave us. They are always with us.

And that we are never, ever alone. ❤️
