5 Signs Your Loved One in Spirit is Trying to Connect with You
Losing someone we love can feel like an unbearable separation, but the truth is—love never fades. Our loved ones in spirit may no longer be physically present, but their energy, guidance, and love continue to surround us. They find ways to remind us that they’re still with us, often in ways that feel deeply personal and unmistakable.
Have you ever had a song play at the perfect moment, found a feather in your path, or felt a sudden warmth when thinking of them? These moments are not coincidences. Spirits communicate through signs, dreams, and synchronicities, nudging us to know they are near.
For me, I always know my dad is around when I see a cardinal. Before he passed, I used to joke that I’d know he was visiting if I saw a squirrel. He did not find that amusing—my parents’ backyard was overrun with them, and he was not a fan, to say the least.
But a few days after his funeral, as I was driving on the highway, a cardinal flew right past my windshield. Seeing one in such an unexpected place—far from trees or feeders—was rare, and in that moment, I just knew it was a sign from him. Thoughts of him filled my mind instantly, and I believe that’s how we recognize these signs—through the sudden, undeniable feeling of their presence.
There’s something about that bright red flash in the trees or a cardinal landing right in front of me that feels like his way of saying, “I’m still here, and I love you.” Cardinals are often seen as messengers from heaven, bringing comfort and reassurance just when we need it most.
Coins are another common sign from spirit. Have you ever found a penny or dime in an unexpected place? During my readings when spirit shows me a coin, I love to call them “pennies from heaven,” because they are small reminders that our loved ones are watching over us. So, the next time you find a coin, take a moment to acknowledge it—chances are, it could be more than just spare change.
From flickering lights to sudden chills, familiar scents to hearing their favorite song at just the right time, these signs are their way of reaching out. The more we acknowledge and welcome these messages, the more they seem to appear.
Common Signs from Loved Ones in Spirit
1. Vivid Dreams or Visitations
My grandparents love to visit me in dreams, especially my mom’s dad. We had a close bond when I was growing up, and I love being able to tell my mom when he pops in to say hello.
Dreams are one of the most common ways spirit communicates with us. But unlike ordinary dreams, these visitations feel strikingly real—filled with emotion, clarity, and meaning, as if you were truly with them. You may wake up with an unshakable sense of peace or a message that lingers in your heart long after.
Pay attention to these dreams. They are often direct messages from your loved ones, offering comfort, love, or guidance when you need it most.
2. Unexplained Synchronicities
Have you ever noticed repeating numbers, a song playing at the perfect moment, or a familiar scent with no explanation?
I’ll never forget the time I dropped my daughter off for her play. I was the first to arrive at the theater before the performance, and as I sat in my seat, a gentle breeze carried the unmistakable scent of her grandmother’s perfume—just like someone had walked right past me. Tears filled my eyes as I instantly knew: She was there. It was her way of saying, “No way am I going to miss her perform today.” She had always been my daughter’s biggest fan—next to me, of course.
These synchronicities are not coincidences—they are signs. Spirit loves to use meaningful patterns to catch our attention, whether it’s a special date, a favorite song lyric, or even a name that keeps appearing. If it makes you stop and think of them, trust that it’s them saying, “I’m here.”
3. Feeling Their Presence
Many people describe feeling a sudden warmth, a gentle pressure on their shoulder, or even a familiar energy in the room. This is often your loved one making their presence known. You might even feel chills or a tingling sensation—subtle, yet undeniable. When you experience this, take a deep breath, close your eyes, and acknowledge their presence. Let them know you feel them.
4. Objects Moving or Appearing
Spirits love to leave small physical reminders—you might find a coin, a feather, or an item of theirs appearing unexpectedly. Some people even report lights flickering, electronics turning on by themselves, or a favorite photograph being knocked over. These playful signs are their way of getting your attention and reminding you that they are near.
5. Hearing Their Voice or Name
As I typed “hearing our name,” I couldn’t help but think of one morning when I was half asleep and suddenly heard my name being shouted. There was no doubt in my mind—it was my dad, who had passed away several years prior. The strange part? There was no one else in the room. To be honest, it felt just like being a teenager again. I instinctively rolled over, thinking, Just five more minutes, and went back to sleep.
But, if you’ve ever heard your loved one’s name spoken in a crowd or even heard their voice in your mind, know that spirit often communicates telepathically, placing thoughts, words, or phrases in our awareness. If you suddenly remember something they used to say or hear their favorite song just when you need comfort most, trust that it’s them—a definite sign from spirit.
Trust the Signs and Stay Open
Your loved ones in spirit are always with you, sending love and encouragement. The more open and aware you are, the more you’ll begin to notice their signs. And if you’re ever unsure, simply ask them to show you a sign—and then trust what comes. It might not always be immediate or obvious, but spirit has a way of guiding you to exactly what you need.
You are never alone, and love never fades. Trust, believe, and know that they are always near.
How Spirit Communicates Through Me as a Psychic Medium
When I connect with spirit, I use my psychic senses, known as the “clairs”, as channels to receive and interpret messages. Your loved ones will communicate in the way that feels most natural to them, and here’s how I perceive their messages during a reading:
• Clairsentience (Clear Feeling): My strongest ability. I can feel their emotions, personality, and even physical sensations related to their passing.
• Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing): I receive visions, symbols, and imagery—like watching a movie in my mind’s eye.
• Clairaudience (Clear Hearing): I hear words, phrases, or even music that hold meaning for you.
• Claircognizance (Clear Knowing): A deep, intuitive knowing—names, dates, facts that come through without prior knowledge.
• Channeling: Sometimes, I find myself speaking in a way that mirrors a loved one’s personality, phrases, or sense of humor, blending our energies together for a deeper connection.
