Have you ever stumbled across a photo that feels like a love note from your past self? That happened to me this morning. The photo in question? A snapshot of me peeking out of a giant flower pot. Yes, you read that right—a full-grown adult standing inside a massive red planter, radiating pure joy.

This photo was taken many years ago during a professional photoshoot in Boston for a holiday feature with the brilliant floral designer David Winston. On our last day, we visited his shop, and these enormous planters immediately caught my eye. My inner child woke up instantly, and I was literally bouncing with excitement. With the staff’s permission and my photographer’s willingness to indulge me, I hopped right in.

Looking at this picture now, I realize it’s more than just a fun memory. I think it found me today for a reason—a gentle nudge to find more balance in the midst of life’s everyday stuff and responsibilities. It’s a reminder that joy, silliness, and spontaneity aren’t just for kids; they’re lifelines for our souls.

We often find ourselves weighed down by the seriousness of adulting—constantly striving, learning, and reaching for meaning. But what if the secret to aligning with our highest selves is as simple as a good laugh or a spontaneous dance? Joy attracts more joy, this I know. When we shift our energy, it creates a ripple effect that touches everything around us.

Sometimes, life invites us to step out of our carefully curated roles and just be. To find joy in the unexpected and let our inner child run wild. Schedule fun into your day, whether it’s a silly outing, a creative activity, or just watching your favorite comedy.

When we make space for lightheartedness, we’re not avoiding life’s responsibilities; we’re balancing them. Lighthearted moments fuel our spirits and give us the energy to truly thrive.

So, what are you waiting for? Go out and have some fun! Taking a spontaneous walk, jumping into a big puddle, or dancing around your living room to your favorite song—make some room for joy today. Let your inner child lead the way and embrace the unexpected. Life’s too short not to laugh, so go ahead—silliness and spontaneity are waiting for you!
